Seven Types of Pronoun | Part 8

In this lesson will discuss all about the remaining types of Pronouns. This video will solve all your doubts related to pronouns.

Okay. So lets get started

Firstly, lets remember what we have covered about pronouns in our previous video
We discussed about Pronouns and there types. Which are they. If you remember.
They are majorly divided into 7 types
1. Personal Pronouns
2. Indefinite Pronouns
3. Relative Pronouns
4. Intensive Pronouns
5. Demonstrative Pronouns
6. Interrogative Pronouns
7. Reflexive Pronouns
Personal pronouns are associates with particular person. Example I, me he, she.
I have covered all about them in the previous video. Please watch that if you haven’t. I have given the links here and in the description
Now lets look into various other categories of pronound
Indefinite Pronouns.
So, what are Indefinite pronouns
If there is a situation where you do not want to indicate exact person or place you can use indefinite pronouns
Examples of them are : 1. Anybody, anyone, nobody 2.Every, all both 3.Some, enough, many, much

Lets look into some Sentence Examples of them
1. Somebody ate my sandwich. Here somebody is the indefinite pronoun as no one knows the exact person.
2. Everyone say’s she is beautiful. Here also everyone is in indifinite pronoun as one knows the exact person.
3. Does anyone knows whats happening here?. Here anyone is used as indifinite, as the person is asking in general to all. So remember when you do not want to project any exact person or thing use them.
Now lets look into next category of pronouns

Relative Pronouns
Now, what are relative pronouns.
They refer to nouns which are mentioned previously. They may be person, place, thing or idea.
They Can be used to join two sentences
Examples of them includes :
Who, whom, which, whomsoever, whose

Now lets look into the sentence examples of them.
The cyclist who won the race trained hard. Here, who is refered for the cyclist again in the sentence. SO it is a relative pronouns
The police needed details that could help identify the robber. Here, that is used to join two sentence. So, it is a relative pronoun
 This is the place where we met. Here, where is used in continuation of sentence and joining two sentences. So, it’s a relative pronoun
 So, relative pronouns are used in place of nouns which were refered previously.
Lets look into the next category of pronouns.

Intensive Pronouns.
They Emphasize a noun or pronoun
And provide more importance to a sentence
Examples of them include : Himself, herself, yourself, themselves, ourselves


Lets look into the sentence examples of them
He himself is responsible for the situation. Here, we are emphasizing on “he” using himself giving more importance to the sentence
Jennifer sewed her dress herself. Here “herself” is used to adress that she “herself” did that.
We built a garden shed by ourselves. Here “ourselves” is used and it emphazises on “our” own selves.
So, intensive pronouns are used to emphaze a nouns or pronouns. Lets look the next Pronouns.

Demostrative Pronouns :
They are used to point something specific within a sentence
They focus attention on the nouns that they are replacing
Examples
This, That These, Those, such

Lets look into the sentence examples.
This is a white cow. Here, ‘this‘ is used to point out the cow which is near. So, it is a demonstrative pronouns
These are my books. Here ‘these’ is used to point out collection of books. So, it is a demonstrative pronouns
Such a pen costs two rupees. Here ‘such’ is used to point out a pen. So, it is a demonstrative pronouns
Now lets look into the next category of pronouns
Interrogative Pronnouns
Used to begin a question
It is used to make asking question easy
Examples
What, which, who, whom and whose

Lets look into the sentence examples of them.
1. What do you want for dinner. Here, what is used to ask a question about asking for a dinner.
2. Which color do you prefer. Here, which is used to ask for color preference
3. Who is going to take out the trace. Here, who is used to ask a question.
So, remember, if that interragotive pronouns are used when asking question
Now lets look into the last type of pronoun.


Reflexive Pronouns :
They are object pronouns that we use when the subject and object are the same noun.
These are the ones that end in “self” or "selves.“
Myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself

Lets look into the sentence examples.
I asked to myself to calm down. Here, both subject and object is “I”. So, “myself” is a reflexive pronoun
He wanted to impress her, so he baked a cake himself.  Here, both subject and object, is “He” so, “himself” is a reflexive pronoun
You are too young to go out by yourselves. Here, both subject and object are refered to “You”. So, “yourselves” is a reflexive pronoun
