What is Personal Pronoun | Part 7

Hello Friends, My name is Nihir Mandowara. And welcome to the Sixth Grammar Lesson.
Today we are going to discuss about Types of Pronouns and dig deeper into Person Pronouns.
Please take a pen or pencil and a book. If you find anything new, please write in it. You will learn quick doing it.
Pause the video and rewind it, if you don’t get any concept.
To get most out of this video, please watch it till the end.
Okay, So, lets get started

Let’s remember what we have covered in our previous video.
We discussed about subject and predicate. I missed telling you the definition of object and what is the difference between Object and Predicate.
So, we will look here, What Subject, Object and Predicate is.
Every complete sentence has two parts : Subject and Predicate.
Subject tells us what(or who) the sentence is about,
Predicate tells us what(or who) the sentence is about and
What is an Obecjt then,
Instead of performing any action, they receive the action. They are Followed by Verb.,
Functions as Noun/Pronouns. Lets look into examples to make things clear.

Compare the examples with definition of Subject, Predicate and Object.
Sam ate a cream cake
Here, what the sentence is about. It is about Sam. So, Sam is a subject here.
And what Sam is did, Sam ate the cream cake. So, ate the cream cake is Predicate here.
And what is thing at the receiving end here. It is the cake. So, cake is an object here.
Lets look into another example to make things more clear.
Rajesh loves playing badminton
Here, what the sentence is about. It is about Rajesh. So, Rajesh is a subject here.
And what Rajesh plays regularly, plays badminton regularly, so, plays badminton regularly is predicate here.
And what is thing at the receiving end here. It is the badminton. So, badminton is an object here.
I hope you are now clear about Subject, Predicate and Object. Now lets look into Pronouns

So, what is a Pronoun.
Pronoun is a word that : replaces a noun in the sentence.
Pronouns can do everything that nouns can do
They can be subject or object
Please remember this three things about pronouns and you wont have difficulties in remembering them.
Lets look into various pronouns we use generally.

Examples of Pronouns are
I, me, you, yours, he, she, him, her, it, we, you, they
Now lets look into sentence examples for few of them.

I love playing with you. Here, I and you are pronouns
We enjoy hearing her song. Here, We and here are pronouns.
We have already covered all this in our previous video. Please check it out. If you haven’t.
Now, lets look into various types of Pronouns
Various types of Pronouns are :
1. Personal Pronouns
2. Indefinite Pronouns
3.Relative Pronouns
4.Intensive Pronouns
5.Demonstrative Pronouns
6.Interrogative Pronouns
7.Reflexive Pronouns

Personal pronouns.
Personal Pronouns are divided based on various types. We will understand them first.
Point of View. Basically there are three points of View in English. First Person, Second Person and Third Person.
Let me explain you with a simple example.
Suppose Ram and Shyam are in a room. If Ram is telling something to Shyam about Richa which is not present in the room,
Then in this case, Ram is a first person as he is the person who is talking, Shyam is second person as he is listing to ram and Richa
Is third person as she is not present in the room while they are talking. And there conversation may be like this.
I am telling you that she is very intelligent. Okay. This is “Point of View”
Personal Pronouns are also divided based on Forms. There are two Forms.
Singular and Plural.
Sungular is used if we are talking about only one person and
Plural is used if we are talking about more than one person

Personal Pronouns can be divided into three types :
Subjective, Possesive and Objective
Subjective => Used for addressing Subject
“I,” “we,” “he,” “she,”“who” and “they” are examples of Subjective pronouns
Possesive => used to show ownership.
“My/mine,” “our/ours,” “his,” “her/hers,” “their/theirs and “whose” are examples of them
Objective => Used for addressing Objects
“Me,” “us,” “him,” “her,” “them” and “whom” are examples of Subjective pronouns.
Lets quickly review the three different ways in which Personal Pronouns are divided.
They are divided based on Three types of Person : 1st Person, 2nd Person and 3rd Person
Two types of Form : Singular and Plural Form
And further divided into three types : Subjective, Possesive and Object
Okay, Now we will look into each Person seperately to understand pronouns

First Person, what is it. It represents the person speaking.
It is divided into two parts : SINGULAR and Plural. And three types : “Subjective”, “Possessive” and “Objective”
Now for Subjective,
I is used for Singular Form and “We” is used for Plural form
For Possessive,
My,mine are used in Singular form and “our, ours” are used in plural form
For Objective,
Me is used in Singular form and “Us” is used in plural form
Lets look into some examples,
Singular Form : I am a good swimmer. Here, I is used as Subject and is a Singular Form
Plural Form : We are a team of good Swimmer. Here, We is used as a Subject and is a Plural FOrm
Now, lets look into Second Person

Second Person : represents the person who is listening
In second person, Singular and Plural Form are same and this are divided into :
Subjective, Possessive and Objective types
Now, “You” is used as Singular/Plural form in Subject for 2nd Person
“Your, Yours” is used as Singular/Plural form in Posseisive for 2nd Person
“You” is used as Singular or Plural form in Objective type
Lets look into sentence examples :
Singular Form :
You like cooking. Here, you is used as a Singular Form and as a Subject
You all are great cook. Here, you is used as a Plural form as we are addressing more than one cook and is used as “Subject”
Now lets look into 3rd type of Person

Third Person : It reprsents the person or thing other than first and second person.
They are divided into Singular and Plural Form
And are further divided into Subjective, Possessive and Obejctive
“He, She, It” is used for Singular Form in Subjective type and “They” is used in plural form
“His, her, and hers” is used for Singular form in Possesive type and “Their and Theirs” is used in plural form
“Him, her and it” is used for Singular Form in Objective type and “Them” is used as plural form.
Lets look into Sentence examples of third person
Singular Form : He reads news paper regularly
Here, he is used as 3rd person as a Subject in Singular Form
Plural Form : They read news paper regularly.
Here, while refering to more than one person, we used “They” and it is used as a Subject only.

Now lets quickly review this chart which we have covered in this video.
I,me,my,mine is used for Singular Form in First Person
We,us, our, ours is used for Plural Form in First Person

You, your, yours is used for Singular form and Plural in 2nd person

He, she,it,him, her, his, hers, it is used for Singular Form in Third Person
And they, them, their, theirs is used for Plural form in 3rd person
